Four Decades of Estate Planning in One Community

A firm built on a single specialty — estate and gift tax planning for high-net-worth individuals and families — and practiced continuously from the same Huntington address since 1986.

A Practice Built to Last

Schanker and Schanker was established in 1986, and we have practiced from Huntington, New York ever since. That continuity is not incidental — it reflects a deliberate choice to build a firm around a specific discipline and a specific community rather than to expand into general practice or chase growth for its own sake.

Most of our clients come to us through referrals: from CPAs, financial advisors, and families who have worked with us for years. That pattern of trust, sustained over time, is the clearest measure of what we have built.

Our practice covers the full range of estate and gift tax planning needs — from foundational documents for individuals and families to sophisticated tax minimization strategies for ultra-high-net-worth clients, business succession planning, elder law, and charitable giving. We serve clients across New York, New Jersey, and Florida, with offices in Huntington, Manhattan, and Red Bank.

Estate and Tax Planning Is What We Do

We are a boutique firm with a narrow focus. Estate planning, estate and gift tax planning, and the related disciplines of elder law, special needs planning, and estate administration are the entirety of our practice. We do not handle personal injury, criminal defense, real estate closings, or general litigation.

That focus matters to the clients we serve. High-net-worth individuals and families evaluating an estate planning firm are not looking for breadth — they are looking for depth, and for attorneys who have spent careers thinking about exactly the problems they are bringing to the table.

What Sets This Firm Apart

Every newsletter, client alert, and article we publish is written by our attorneys — not outsourced, not templated, not assembled from a content service. Our physical direct-mail newsletter has been distributed to clients and professional referral sources for years, and it reflects the same standard we apply to our legal work: precise, substantive, and written for an audience that expects to be treated as sophisticated.

Our glossary of estate planning terms was developed in-house and has become a resource that clients and professional contacts return to regularly. It reflects our belief that plain-English clarity and technical rigor are not in conflict — that explaining a complex concept well is itself a form of expertise.
